Android app now Early Access

The Android Stepcraft app is now in Early Access, allowing anyone to find and install the app. As part of this, we have introduced a way to subscribe through Play Billing in the app, and adjusted pricing and perks to prepare for the future. You can find the app here in the Play Store.

Why move to Early Access?

We noticed a lot of users had issues with joining the testing group. Unfortunately the setup that Google provides for testing of apps creates a bad onboarding experience. By moving the app to Early Access, we make it easy for anyone to find and install the game.

This doesn't change anything about the phase the game is in. We are actively working towards releasing the first complete version of the game, both on Android and iOS.

Tier changes

We now allow users to get access to the game, either by supporting Stepcraft on Patreon, or by subscribing through Play Billing. Matching the Patreon setup, Android users get offered three tiers that give access to just themselves, 2 or 5 people total.

To make sure that the perks for each tier make sense, we are making a few tweaks:

• For any new subscribers, the Novice Adventurer tier will now be 4 euro per month (or equivalent in your local currency). Nothing changes for existing subscribers. The other tiers are also unchanged.
• The highest tier now gives 4 friend invites, for a total of 5 player access. This is up from 3 friend invites. This change applies to existing Master Wanderer subscribers as well!
• If you subscribe through Play Billing, you will get the Novice Adventurer cosmetics, regardless of tier. This is a benefit we give for supporting the game before its full release.
• It is now possible to subscribe on a yearly instead of monthly basis through Play Billing.

For all tiers, the first payment will still be enough to get access for the duration of the Early Access.

Manage subscription

After tapping on your avatar, you will now find a new "Manage subscription" button. This allows you to see the details of your current subscription, and if you used Play Billing you can upgrade, downgrade or cancel here as well.

If you subscribe at a higher tier, you can now invite friends to join you directly from the app. The invite form on the website will no longer be available.

These changes are a big step towards the setup we aim to have at full release, and significantly improve the onboarding experience for our Android users.
